| SCHOOLS PREPARING FOR STATE ASSESSMENTS
Students will begin taking State Assessments soon. Schools are making efforts to stress the importance of the tests to students. At 2:45 on Friday Pauline South is having an all school assembly where they will recognize reaching the State Standards of Excellence last year along with recognizing the individual students who scored Exemplary. They do this each year to get students excited about repeating the accomplishment. They start testing on Monday, March 3rd.

HIGH SCHOOL STAGES POPULAR MUSICAL
The Washburn Rural High School Music and Drama Departments are presenting “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” March 6-8. Based extremely loosely on the Stephen Vincent Benet story Sobbin' Women, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” became a huge hit of the 1950's and remains a beloved musical comedy, an energetic, high-kicking classic. The show is directed by Connie Archer-McGinnis with musical direction by Adam White, orchestra direction by David Ohse, and technical direction by Robert Owens. The show runs March 6th, 7th, and 8th at 7:00 PM with a 2:00 PM matinee on March 8th. Tickets are $8.00 and may be purchased at the door, in advance at the WRHS Bank, or by calling the WRHS Box Office, 339-4945.

NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR TEACHER OF EXCELLENCE AWARD
The district is currently seeking nominations for the Andrea P. Glenn Teacher of Excellence Award. Secondary teachers in USD 437 have the opportunity to be recognized and earn $1,000 for continuing education, seminars, or other professional training. The annual gift is sponsored by the Andrea P. Glenn Foundation for Education and Community Service, and the law firm of Woner, Glenn, Reeder, Girard & Riordan, P.A. Recipients of the award will be selected by a special committee consisting of parents, students and faculty members. Nominations can be made by any parent, student or staff member in the district. The award recognizes Andrea Glenn, former district School Board president and Board member for over ten years. The award alternates between elementary and secondary each year. Nominations are due by April 4th. Nomination forms are available online at www.usd437.net or at the district administrative office at 53rd & Wanamaker.
COMPUTER TRAINING SESSION AVAILABLE TO PATRONS
Patrons in Auburn-Washburn will have the opportunity to take a basic Microsoft Excel training course in March. The three-hour course will take participants through the basics of this spreadsheet program. The training will take place on March 13 from 5:30-8:30 PM at the Shuler Education Center at 5928 SW 53rd Street. The cost for the training is $20.00.
